Fishing near Tampa | Tampa Things To Do

Fishing near Tampa offers literally thousands of options.  Florida is known as the fishing capital of the United States, maybe even the world.  If you have heard otherwise, please post your comment. Even if Florida isn’t the fishing capital of anything, fishing near Tampa is excellent.

Fishing tips:

I am not the fisherman although it does inspire me to watch others fish.  Just being near Tampa, FL you don’t travel far without seeing water and the fisherman lined along the shores.  This article is full of proven fishing tips and tricks that will help you improve your rate of catch.

  1. Be extra careful when you wade through water especially an ocean. My husband caught a shark in the shallow water off the Dunedan Causeway.  It was not a baby shark.  It was a young hammerhead shark about 3 feet long.  I might be exaggerating about the size but it for real was not a little baby shark.  Baby sharks can bite and hurt like hades too so wading in shallow water isn’t the smartest thing to do but that’s my opinion. I see waders in the shallow part of the ocean all the time and rarely hear of accidents or someone being hurt.  Still, to me…it is better safe than sorry.  If you need to wade while fishing, walk slowly and carefully. If you disturb the water too much, you’ll make enough noise to scare fish away from the area. Being smart about fishing is the key to safety.
  2. You don’t have to be fancy. Some of the coolest fishing gear I have ever seen was hand-made.  Don’t select fancy gear if you’re a novice fisherman or woman. Expensive equipment is unnecessary.  Expensive equipment will not bring in more or bigger fish.  Choose affordable fishing gear and save money while knowing you are getting your money’s worth in enjoyment.
  3. Sunscreen should be on the list of items you bring with you when fishing.  Are you serious?  Fishing or sunbathing near Tampa is a hot topic.  Florida is the “Sunshine State” remember?  You can get burned in the blink of an eye.  Sunburns can be serious.  Always use sunscreen.  Keep a bottle in every vehicle you have.  Even if the temperature is not going to be very high it doesn’t matter in Tampa.  Cloudy skies still shine harmful rays and even worse, you don’t realize because it’s cloudy.   The reflection of the sun waiting for the water can burn your skin badly too.
  4. Never go out fishing without first checking the weather conditions. I guess that is a no-brainer but I see people lining the beaches when I know there is severe weather arriving soon.  It makes me wonder if they are truly “die-hard” fisherman ready to withstand mother nature because they love their sport that much!  You may also want to bring a radio beside you since weather is constantly changing.  Being smart about checking weather conditions can truly safe your life.  Be sure to familiarize yourself with the day’s weather before each fishing trip. Venturing off into the deep water during bad weather can be dangerous and is a risk I would not want to see anyone take.  Check out the weather in order to ensure that you are properly dressed and ready for your fishing trip.  Being properly dressed is also important. Florida is hot but can be cold when the deep sea breezes hit your naked arms and legs.

There is a lot of things to do in Tampa Florida you bet!  Fishing is one of my favorites.  Watch for more fishing pages to come and please submit your own fishing stories.  I will publish the best fish tales and give you credit in a bi-line.  Did you take a nice vacation with the family?  Did your son age 3 come up with something funny that you can tell us about?  Do you have a picture of your 3 year old holding the fish with stringer, the fish that his daddy caught?  I would love to see all your fishing photos.  Tell us every thing you know about fishing and until then…happy days.
